Relief Store Manager – Hi-Lo Food Stores (Saint James)

Purpose of Job:

While in training, the incumbent will provide operational, financial and organizational direction to retail operations of the assigned store in the areas of merchandising, expense and loss control, profit management, budget planning and supervision in order to ensure efficient and economically sound operations.

 

Principal Responsibilities (include the following, but are not limited to)

  • Completes store operational requirements by scheduling and assigning employees; following up on work results.
  • Maintains staff by recruiting, selecting, orienting, and training employees.
  • Maintains staff job results by coaching, counseling, and disciplining employees; planning, monitoring, and appraising job results.
  • Achieves financial objectives by preparing an annual budget, scheduling expenditures, analyzing variances, and initiating corrective actions.
  • Identifies current and future customer requirements by establishing rapport with potential and actual customers, as well as, other persons in a position to understand service requirements.
  • Ensures availability of merchandise and services by maintaining inventories.
  • Formulates pricing policies by reviewing merchandising activities; determining additional needed sales promotion; requesting clearance sales; studying trends.
  • Markets merchandise by studying advertising, sales promotion, and display plans; analyzing operating and financial statements for profitability ratios.
  • Secures merchandise by implementing security systems and measures.
  • Protects employees and customers by providing a safe and clean store environment.
  • Maintains the stability and reputation of the organization by complying with legal requirements.
  • Determines marketing strategy changes by reviewing operating and financial statements and departmental sales records.
  • Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies.
  • Maintains operations by initiating, coordinating, and enforcing program, operational, and personnel policies and procedures.
  • Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.
  • Perform any other job-related tasks that may be assigned from time to time.

Minimum Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Business Administration, Management Studies or related studies
  • Working knowledge of the retail industry
  • Customer Focused
  • Tracking Budget Expenses
  • Pricing, Vendor Relationships
  • Recruiting and Training of Staff
  • Results oriented
  • Strategic Planning
  • Management Proficiency in Client Relationships
  • Training in inventory management
  • Knowledge of a Retail Software would be an asset.
  • A minimum of five (5) years management/supervisory experience
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal and people-management skills
  • Ability to work well under pressure;
